Celebrate Summer: The 90th Kilmarnock Firemen’s Festival Wraps Up Tomorrow Night

If you’ve driven down Waverly Avenue lately, you’ve probably noticed it—the glow of carnival lights, the laughter spilling into the night, and the unmistakable aroma of those famous burgers on the grill. It’s that time again in Kilmarnock: the beloved Firemen’s Festival is in full swing, and tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 6, is your last chance to join the fun before it fades into summer memory.

For 90 years, this festival has been more than just rides and games—it’s been a tradition. Generations have wandered these same grounds, watching little ones win their first goldfish, sharing a funnel cake with a sweetheart, or catching up with neighbors you somehow haven’t seen since last year’s festival.

This year marks a milestone for the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department. After last year’s fire destroyed the old bingo stand, the community rallied. Thanks to generous support from neighbors, local businesses, and the Town of Kilmarnock, a brand-new open-air bingo pavilion now stands proudly on the midway—lit, welcoming, and ready for many summers to come.

And while the much-anticipated new carousel was delayed by Texas flooding, the midway is still alive with rides, games, and that special something that keeps people coming back year after year.

Of course, the festival’s grand prize raffle is always a highlight. This year, one lucky winner will drive away in a 2024 Ford Ranger Lariat 4x4. Second place takes home a shiny red Denago Rover golf cart, and third wins a kayak package complete with fishing gear. Tickets are just $20, and the drawing happens Saturday night at 11:30 p.m.

Tomorrow night’s your chance to take one more spin on the rides, try your luck at the games, and soak up the spirit of this small-town celebration. Come hungry, bring a friend, and leave with a heart full of summer.
